Rottweiler Problems and Aggression
While the Rottweiler today is a very happy dog with a ton of energy and a loving personality when trained properly, the breed was originally designed for hunting large game. So, deep down, the dog has a tendency to get aggressive towards anything it sees as a threat.
This drive can be made worse when the dog is not properly socialized at a young age.
They might grow easily agitated, overreact to certain situations, and attack new animals or people in their homes. This is not a common situation or behavior, however as a Rottweiler owner you must be aware of this type of reaction.
To avoid Rottweiler problems due to aggression, socialize your puppy at a very young age, and then maintain a strong alpha presence in the household at all times. Once you Rottweiler puppy feels that your are the one in charge in all situation, it will look to you to determine the response it will take.

Rottweiler Problems and Prey Drive
Rottweilers being bred to herd and protect livestock can be seen in their eagerness to protect you and pay attention when their owner is about. Not considered a prey type of dog, you will see a tendency to follow your lead when other animals are about. This can extend to everything from small animals like squirrels to the neighborhood’s cats.
If you dog cannot be in a secure area when running in your yard, it may be a good idea to keep it locked up when you are away or cannot observe it. Once your dog decides it is ok to attack a neighbor’s animal, problems can become very serious very quickly.
Separation Anxiety
Rottweilers can easily grow agitated and start showing signs of extensive anxiety – especially if you give them too much attention when leaving or coming home.
Not only will the dog bark when you’re away, they may begin to hurt themselves, pulling hair, scratching their paws, breaking teeth, or making messes in the house.
This can become a serious issue to overcome if not delt with in the proper manner. For Rottweiler problems with anxiety, teach the dog from a young age not to seek attention before or after you leave or return home.
If you do not live alone, then everyone in the household much exhibit the same characteristics in these matters. Even one person “saying goodbye” to a dog can create anxious feelings.
Rottweiler Problems and Neuroses
Beyond separation anxiety, Rottweilers can grow neurotic over a number of issues – small sounds, digging, scratching, eating, or other common behaviors. It is usually easy to avoid this by keeping the dog busy and giving them a lot of exercise.
Because of their herding and protection background it is a good idea to give your Rottweiler 1 to 2 hours of exercise each day in some form.
If you cannot spend time at home with your dog in the first 1-2 years of ownership, you should consider a different breed that does better spending time alone.
Additionally, consider getting a second dog for company and spend at least 2-3 hours of every day in the company of your dog, no matter how busy you get.
Rottweiler problems are similar to most dog problems, but can grow exponentially if you are not careful to nip them in the bud early. Your dog will live a long happy life if you take the time to address common aggressive tendencies before the appear and grow a solid positive relationship to prevent Rottweiler problems with your dog.
